KALASADHANA DANCE ACADEMY (KDA)
Kalasadhana Dance Academy is the FIRST Bharatanatyam classical Indian dance academy in Lubbock, Texas, offering Kalakshetra-style Bharatanatyam grounded in discipline, tradition, and artistic integrity. Founded to cultivate thoughtful, expressive, and technically strong dancers, the academy provides a holistic learning environment that integrates dance training, musicality, cultural literacy, and creative expression.

Classes are open to students ages 6 through adults of all ages, supporting learners at every stage—from beginners to advanced practitioners. The curriculum follows a structured progression emphasizing adavu technique, rhythmic and musical understanding, expressive storytelling (abhinaya), written stick figure notation, repertoire development, and performance ethics.
As part of this training, students wear KDA uniforms, which reinforce discipline, focus, and a shared sense of belonging while honoring the traditional pedagogical values of the Kalakshetra system. The uniform colours of Saffron and Yellow signify sparks of fire which is Agni Devi. A specialized international certificate-based training pathway is currently in development, guiding students toward long-term artistic growth, Arangetram preparation, and formal graduation as solo performers.

Led by Samyuktha Punthambekar, Founder, Artistic Director, and the first Indian classical dance teacher in Lubbock, the academy is committed to building sustainable pathways for Bharatanatyam to mainstream platforms in West Texas. Classes are held in partnership with Artist in Motion Dance Studio and the Hindu Temple of Lubbock on Tuesdays, fostering strong connections between artistic practice and community life. Current and graduating students may transition into Kalasadhana Dance Company (KDC), performing in professional dance productions, and curated dance events while contributing to a living and evolving tradition.
Currently, KDA batches are structured as follows:
1. Advance Beginner Batch (6-9 years)
2. Intermediate Batch (10-15 years)
3. Advance Senior Batch (16-20 years)
4. Adult Batch (21 years and upwards)
