KALASADHANA DANCE COMPANY AND ACADEMY'S STORY

The name Kalasadhana brings together “Kala,” meaning dance and the arts, and “Sadhana,” meaning dedicated, devotional practice or penance reflecting disciplined and purposeful artistic pursuit. Kalasadhana Dance Company (KDC) was founded in January 2020 in Ottawa, Canada by Samyuktha Punthambekar to create contemporary-inspired Bharatanatyam works rooted in classical tradition, while Kalasadhana Dance Academy (KDA) was established in Lubbock, Texas in July 2025 to provide structured, holistic Bharatanatyam education in the Kalakshetra style. Together, the Company and Academy form an integrated ecosystem of training, creation, and performance. The name 'Kalasadhana', is blessed by H.H. Parama Pujya Sadyojat Shankarashram Swamiji of Shri Chitrapur Math

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE LOGO

The logo symbolizes fire. Fire is an important significance of energy, growth and warmth. Lord Shiva - the lord of dance is simultaneously destroying and re-creating the world. The flame represents the eternal cyclical nature of existence—destruction and creation, death and rebirth. The shape and the eye resembles the Phoenix and Garuda (Lord Vishnu's vehicle) which signifies constantly rising from the ashes.

SIGNIFICANCE OF DESIGN COLOURS

Samyuktha hails from the Tanjore Maratha dynasty. Jejuri is a city and is famous for the main temple of Lord Khandoba (a manifestation of Lord Shiva). The temple is always adorned with turmeric powder which is the significance of goodness and calmness, and dates back nearly 4000 years to the Vedic culture in India.

The design and colours therefore symbolize the temple's rich heritage.
